Liz Taylor visits Chiswick

I discovered an interesting story related to our site in Chiswick from a local cab driver who dropped me off there.. Until the end of the 1990s, the site was occupied by a pub called the Feathers. According to those who record the history of old pubs and some contemporary images, there was nothing remarkable about the Feathers - other than the fact that it was the first pub that you came to if you were coming into London from Heathrow after you came off the M4. Liz Taylor was famously a frequent traveller on Concorde when she visited the UK, and despite crossing the Atlantic first class, and staying in the finest London hotels, she liked to go to a ‘proper Britsih pub’ when she arrived - and the Feathers was the first one en route! During a visit in February 1982, with rumours that she might get back together with former husband Richard Burton (who was in London at the same time) she was accompanied by a pack of reporters and having declared that she was ‘a lady on the loose’ told reporters in the Feathers that she was ‘very happy with herself’. Here’s hoping that our customers at Auto West London feel the same - we’ll be doing our best to make it a great experience.
